In short: Oyasoo works out your sleep on your iPhone, and your sleep never reaches us. There’s no account, no ads and no tracking. If you allow it, the app sends anonymous diagnostics that never include your sleep times.
What stays on your iPhone
Everything Oyasoo uses to work out your sleep is stored only in the app, on your iPhone:
- Phone use from Screen Time. Oyasoo only learns that your phone was in use, roughly to the minute. It never sees which apps or websites you use. Apple doesn’t let this information leave your iPhone, and Oyasoo doesn’t try to.
- Motion and steps from Motion & Fitness, and short motion readings that show when you pick up your phone.
- Your sleep: the times Oyasoo detected, and the sleep you added or corrected.
- Your settings.
This data is part of your normal iPhone backup (iCloud or your computer, depending on your settings). Deleting the app deletes it.
Apple Health (Premium, optional)
If you turn on Apple Health sync, Oyasoo writes the sleep it detects to Apple Health: start, end, time awake, and how sure Oyasoo is about it. Nothing about your phone use goes to Health. Oyasoo only reads from Health when you tap Restore from Apple Health, and then only the sleep Oyasoo wrote itself. Health data is never used for advertising and never shared with anyone. What Oyasoo wrote stays in Health, which you control, also if you cancel Premium or delete the app.
Anonymous diagnostics (optional)
When you first open the app, Oyasoo asks whether you want to share anonymous diagnostics. Only if you tap Share, the app sends at most one short report a day, when you open it. It tells us whether detection still works, so we can fix problems quickly after an iOS update. A report contains:
- your iOS version, iPhone model and app version
- whether the permissions are on, and whether sleep detection is running
- counts and error codes, such as how many nights were checked and whether something failed
- crash reports, if the app crashed
A report never contains your sleep times, your phone use, any time of day, or anything that identifies you. Each report gets a new random ID, so reports can’t be linked to each other or to you, and its date has no time of day.
You can turn this off at any time in Settings → Share anonymous diagnostics.
Diagnostics and detection settings go to PostHog (PostHog Inc.), hosted in the EU (Frankfurt), which processes them for us under a data processing agreement. Like any internet service, PostHog receives your IP address when the app connects; it’s set up to discard it and not to look up your location.
Purchases
Premium is bought and managed through the App Store. Apple handles the payment and tells the app whether you have Premium. We never see your payment details or your Apple Account.
Apple also gives us anonymous statistics, such as downloads and crashes, if you agreed to share them with app developers in your iPhone’s settings. That’s Apple’s choice to offer and yours to make, not ours.
When you contact us
If you mail us, for example through Settings → Help & feedback, we receive your email address and what you send. You can choose to attach a diagnostics file. It holds the last 7 days of Oyasoo’s own log, including the times of your sleep and phone use, so the app shows it to you before you send it. We use what you send only to help you, and delete it when it’s no longer needed or when you ask us to.
This website
This website uses no cookies, no analytics and no trackers.
What we don’t do
We don’t sell or share your data, show ads, track you across apps or websites, or create profiles. There’s no account to sign up for.
Your rights
Under the GDPR you have the right to access, correct and delete your personal data, and to object to how it’s used. Most of your data is only on your iPhone, so you control it there: delete the app to delete it all. Diagnostics can’t be traced back to you, so we can’t find or delete one person’s reports. For anything else, contact us at oyasoo@dingit.nl.
Changes
If this policy changes, we’ll update it here and change the date at the top. For important changes we’ll also tell you in the app.
